Santorini, Greece

  After taking the local tender to the bottom of the caldera, we took the cable car to the top and the town of Fira. Once on top we strolled the tiny streets of the town taking in the Ypapanti Orthodox Cathedral. The town was not crowded and we could stroll with ease. In Kusadasi we wandered the streets of the town up to the cemetery. The grave markers had turbans on their tops. On the way back, we had a Mesa Plate for lunch. After clearing customs we took a brief tour of the city and then went to view the Swallow’s Nest Castle on the Crimean coast. Then we traveled along the coast to Massandra to visit Czar Alexander III summer palace. After leaving Istanbul we entered the Black Sea and docked in the port of Varna, Bulgaria. We took a tour of  Varna and then went into the countryside where we viewed a cliff sculpture called “Madara Horsemen”. Istanbul, Turkey (day 2)

Today we took a tour across “The Golden Horn” to the old part of Istanbul. Our first stop was the Roman Hippodrome race track. Here we saw the egyptian Obelisk. Across the way we then entered The Blue Mosque. This building gets its name from the many blue tiles that decorate the inside. From there we walked to Highia Sophia, now a museum. Originally it was a church under Constantine and then converted to a mosque. From there we walked to the Topkapi Palace the home of  the Great Sultans.
