Horta, Azores, Portugal

Sunday May 6, 2012 found us anchored in between the islands of Pico and Faial in the Azores. Our port of call was Horta on the island of Faial, where we had to tender into the marina. Arriving on shore we headed toward the South end of the town, along Rua Vasco da Gama to the Fort of Sao Sebastiao. We then headed North past the Church of Nossa Senhora das Angustias, the Fort of Santa Cruz and the Convent of Sao Francisco. Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal

May 5, 2012 found us in the Azores on the Island of São Miguel in the port of Ponta Delgada. It was an overcast day and rain was forecasted, so we started out with our umbrellas ready. We left the cruise terminal, situated right in town, and walked up the hill to the Mercado (Market). From there we strolled Rua dos Mercadores to the City Gates, the Court House and Matriz São Sedastião (Church). Ponta Delgada, Azores

Ponta Delgada is located on the island of Sao Miguel.  Our tour took us to Furnas Valley & Hot Springs. We traveled to the north side of the island where we overlooked the rugged coast. We then went to the only tea plantation & factory in Europe. After leaving the plantation we drove to Furnas Valley, where there is many hot springs. Our lunch was cooked underground using geo-thermal energy. Ponta Delgada, Azores

When we arrived in the Azores it was a foggy morning, however it cleared up by midday. We went to the region called Sete Cidades. The area has many highland lakes formed by volcanic craters, two of which are side by side ( the green & the blue).
