Port Said, Egypt (Giza Pyramids & Sphinx)
After docking in Port Said we comenced on our three and a half hour journey to Cairo’s outskirts of Giza and their famous pyramids. Once there we drove between and very close to the pyramids to a rise where we could get a panoramic view of all three pyramids and the city of Cairo in the background. After the stop on the rise we drove back to the smallest pyramid (Pyramid of Menkaure) where we got to explore it up close. Leaving the pyramids our next stop was the Sphinx. We docked in the west harbor of the port of Alexandria. We were the second cruise ship in port since the revolt against Mubarak’s government. The mood was upbeat and people were glad to see us. Today we toured three sites in Alexandria; the Qait Bay Citadel, Roman Amphitheater and Bibliotheca Alexandria. The Qait Bay is situated on the same spot as the Faros Lighthouse, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient world.
