On April 24, 2012, we anchored outside Saint-Raphaël, France and had to tender into the port. After disembarking the tender we traveled down Quai Albert I and then walked into the town under the train tracks to the old section of town where we first stopped at Marché République, the main market. We tendered into St. Tropez. In the morning we explored the town and found the weekly open air market in the Place de Lices (park). In the afternoon we rode along the Gulf of St. Tropez and then went inland to the hill top town of Gassin where we explored the town. We docked in Marseille, France and decided to tour Avignon. We began our day by going to the town of Chateau Neuf to a winery. This is the famous wine producing region of France known for Chatauneuf du Pape wine. From there we traveled to Avignon where from 1305 to 1378 seven Popes resided. We saw the old walled city and the Popes’ Palace. We also saw the famous bridge that was bombed during WWII.
