On April 14, 2012 we came to the island of Kefallonia, Greece. At 11:00 AM we docked at the end of a pier with a very long walkway into town. At 9:30 AM on April 11, 2012 we made our way into the port of Piraeus, Greece the gateway to Athens. We spent 2 days here and both days we took the Metro into Athens about a 25 minute ride. On the first day we went to the New Acropolis Museum, which is built of the site of some ancient ruins. Here we spent about an hour looking at this impressive collection while having marvelous views of the Acropolis above. In Santorini we anchor in the caldera and tender in by local boats. Once on shore we took the cable car to the rim of the caldera, to Fira Town. Piraeus is the water gateway to Athens. From the cruise pier, we walked about 30 minutes to the metro station. From there we took the train into Athens. Once in Athens we went to the Parliament Building, the site of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to see the changing of the guard. After the ceremony we strolled down Ermou Street. We went past the Cathedral, several other churches and then wandered the Plaka winding up in Monastiraki Square for lunch. After lunch we wandered the Ancient Agora before heading back to the ship.
