Stanley, Falkland Islands

When we arrived at the entrance of Stanley Harbor the wind was blowing hard and we were not sure if we could tender in. After the situation was assessed, we did go ashore. We took a Land Rover tour to Bluff Cove Lagoon, home of many Gentoo and King penguins. South Georgia Island

After 2 days at sea we arrived  in Cumberland Bay, South Georgia. There was a light snow falling which had covered the land. Today we went ashore by tender to explore Grytviken Whaling Station which was abandoned in the mid 1960’s. Once on shore we went to the cemetery where the infamous Sir Ernest Shackleton was buried. Along the way there were many fur seals, elephant seals and king penguins. We also visited “The Whalers’ Church” and a small museum. Antarctica Day 3

Our last day in Antarctica was meet with a dense fog bank at Hope Bay. The fog was not predicted to lift any time soon so the captain decided to set off for King George Island. When we  arrived at King George Island it was still cloudy but no fog. Antarctica Day 2

Day two in the Antarctic started out with a visit via zodiac from the researchers of Palmer Station. Antarctica Day 1

We traveled south 750 miles and reached Anvers Island, Antarctica around 9:00 AM. Today we saw the continent under mostly sunny skies.
