Casablanca, Morocco

In Casablanca we took a tour to the Portuguese towns of Azemmour and Mazagane. On our way we stopped for an exterior visit of the Hassan II Mosque, the world’s largest. We then went Azemmour a walled city on the Oum Rabiaa River, where we viewed the white washed buildings of this old city. Agadir, Morocco

We docked in the commercial port in Agadir. We took a tour to the markets and Medina of ancient Taroudant. After an hour and a half drive we stopped for tea just outside the walls of Taroudant. We meandered thru the local market, being the only tourists in sight experiencing the local culture. Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Today’s adventure took us to the Timanfaya National Park to view the volcanic landscape. We left the port of Arrrecife and headed to the national park, where our first stop was a camel ride up the slopes of a volcano cone. After the ride we went to the grape growing region to see the grapes growing in lava depressions. We then proceeded to the national park demo area where geothermal activity can be observed. Tenerife, Canary Islands (Day 2)

On our second day in Tenerife, we walked into town. Our ship was docked only a few hundred yards from the main square “Plaza de Espana”, which was our first stop. We then proceeded up the town and across the river to the “Mercado de Nitra Señora de Africa. Tenerife, Canary Islands (Day 1)

Another 2 days at sea brought us to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This was one of our overnight stops. On the first day we went to Mt. Teide National Park, where it had snowed just 2 weeks before. The two main attractions here are Mt. Teide and “Los Roques de Garcia” which resembles the surface of the moon. After visiting the park we drove down to a place called Pueblo Chico. This was a miniature village of the important landmarks and buildings of the seven Canary Islands. Dakar, Senegal

After docking in Dakar we took a tour to ile de Goree, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This island was a slave depot in west Africa. Here slaves were kept until they were sold and then shipped off to Europe or the New World. A 30 minute ferry ride took us to an island which was about 2 miles off shore.
