2014 World Cruise

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten

On April 25, 2014 we reached our last port of the voyage, Philipsburg, Sint Maarten. The ship docks in Philipsburg about a mile form the main part of town. The easiest way to get there is by taking the water taxi from the pier to the main town pier which puts you in the center of town. Philipsburg is a typical caribbean tourist town with all the “duty free” shops which are along the one thoroughfare, Front Street. Along the way down Front Street we turned into Old Street to visit our favorite shop, the Belgian Chocolate Box. After leaving Old Street we walked along the beach...

Roseau, Dominica

The small compact town of Roseau on the island of Dominica was our stop on April 24, 2014. Roseau is a poor caribbean town that doesn’t see much tourism. Today there was intermittent rain showers so we stayed on the ship. The town is mostly catholic and there are a lot of churches that can be seen from the ship and many buildings had tin roofs. Some locals set up a craft area under tarps near the pier and there was a steel drum playing on the pier much of the day. The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip. Mindelo, Cape Verde

On April 15, 2014, found us in the port of Mindelo on another of the Cape Verde Islands, Sao Vincent. The ship was docked just outside of town at Porto Grande, so we decided to take the shuttle into town. Mindelo is a relatively small town and is easily explored in a couple of hours. The shuttle left us off at the Eagle Statue and from there we went up the small hill to the pink Governor’s Palace. We then came back down to the Municipal Market where mostly fruits and vegetables were sold. On our way down to the beach we passed the Señora de Luz Church. On the beach there was lots of...
