Reunion

Traveling further south we landed on Reunion an island, one of the 27 regions of France, on March 24, 2014. Our port of call was La Possession. Our tour today was to the center of the island to an elevation of 6,000 feet above sea level and above the clouds. On our way we traveled along the coast for awhile before we started our ascent through sugar cane fields and small towns with their provincial houses.  After climbing up through the tree line we arrived at the summit. Mauritius

We reached Mauritius on March 23, 2014 and docked in the port of Port Louis. On this day we took a tour around the island with views of the rugged Moka Mountain peaks that popped out of the valley floor. We proceeded to the Great Basin where annual pilgrimages are made to a Hindu Temple and its lake which has water from the Ganges River. Leaving the Temple we then went to the Black River Gorges in the National Park of Mauritius and then the Seven Colors of Earth Nature Preserve. Seychelles

March 19, 2014, found us of the coast of Africa in the Seychelles. We entered the outer harbor of the Port of Victoria around 2:00 PM and were along side the pier at 3:00 PM. We were greeted by singers and dancers pier side as we left the Amsterdam. We just took in the pier area for about an hour as we were here overnight and would start exploring on March 20th. In the morning we boarded a small 16 passenger bus to explore the area in and around Victoria. After a short panoramic tour of Victoria, we climbed into the mountains for some spectacular views of the island and it’s coastline....

Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka was our port of call on March 15,2014. We decided to go to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage  outside Rambukana about 56 miles from Colombo. We boarded a coach to take us to the Fort Railway Station where we started a rail journey to Rambukana. From there we had a 30 minute bus ride to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. At the orphanage we had lunch at the Pinnalanda Hotel as we watched the elephants below us bathing and frolicking in the river. After our lunch we entered the orphanage to see the feeding of the baby elephants and to watch them grazing on the savannah. We...

Phuket, Thailand

On March 11,2014, we anchored off the island of Phuket in Thailand.  Our adventure took us off Phuket to mainland Thailand and the picturesque Phang Nga Bay, where the James Bond film “Man with the Golden Gun” was filmed on one of it’s islands, now called James Bond Island. We also took in a water village, Koh Panyi, where local fishermen lived in houses built on stilts. On our way back, we stopped at the Wat Tham Suwan Kuha a Buddhist cave temple. Singapore (Day 2)

Today we visited the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown and then went back to Arab Street to look at the shops. On our way to Chinatown we crossed over the Singapore River with it’s views of the skyline and we passed the City Hall on the Padang.  We then ventured off to the National Orchid Garden which is comprised of  a 74 hectare garden with the largest display of tropical orchids in the world.   The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip.
