Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

December 11th found us at our last stop on this voyage, Half Moon Cay, Holland America line’s private island. Here we had to tender, using the islands tenders, to get on the island. Once on the island we walked the trails along the beach and scoped out The Captain Morgan on the Rocks Island Bar, which was built since the last time we were on the island. Funchal, Madeira

After a day at sea we landed on the island of Madeira. We docked in Funchal the Capital, where we decided to visit the Madeira Botanical Garden. The garden is situated up on a hillside. To get there we walked into town along the new waterfront promenade to the Cable car to Monte. We proceeded to take the cable car up to Monte. At Monte we walked over to another cable car which took us over and down to the Botanical Garden. We spent all morning viewing the various levels of the garden. Lisbon, Portugal

November 29th found us in Lisbon, which lies about 10 miles up the Tagus River. Our dock was on the east side of the city across from the Santa Apolonia train station, and easy access to the Metro, bus, and trolley system. Since we were here two days we got a 2 day public transportation pass. We started out on bus 28 to Praca do Comercio , the main square of the city. From there we walked up into the Baixa, via Rua Augusta and saw the Elevador Santa Justa along the way, to Praca do Rossio. Portimao, Portugal

In Portimao, we had to tender up the river 20 minutes to arrive at the cruise terminal. Once in the terminal, we found a city bus which took us the rest of the way into town. In town we strolled up and down the streets of the old section, looking at the many typical Portuguese tiled buildings, visiting the modern market and the Parca de Republica, on which the Cathedral and the Jesuit College were situated. Cadiz, Spain

On November 27, we sailed into Cadiz, right in the middle of the old town, which lies out on the tip of a peninsula. This being Sunday, the streets were quiet and most shops were closed. Old Cadiz is mostly a pedestrian city with most of the vehicular traffic on the outskirts along the water. We wandered from one side to the other taking in Plaza Espana, several churches, Genovesa park, and Plaza de la Constitucion. Click on any image below to enlarge. Tetouan, Morocco

After passing through the Strait of Gibraltar we headed for Tangier in Morocco. After docking at 10:00 AM we took a tour to the northern Morocco capital of Tetouan, “The White Dove City”. Upon arrival in Tetouan we exited our bus and started our walking tour of the old city. Along the way we passed the Royal Palace in Hassan II Square. After leaving the square we entered the Medina with it’s many vendors, shops and souks. While in the Medina we had lunch during which  we were entertained by musicians and dancers.
