March 15, 2015 brought is to Colombo in Sri Lanka formally known as Ceylon. Today we rode around the city to take in the sights. Leaving the port there is the Port control tower that is shaped like a giant stupa. The architecture of Colombo is a mixture of Moroccan and Colonial as well as todays modern buildings. Being very religious, there are many Buddhas located throughout the city. We stopped in the National Museum which housed many of the antiquities of Sri Lanka. The Gangaramaya Temple complex in the heart of the city had many Buddha statues in various styles, from Thai through Sri Lankan to Burmese. There was an extensive collection of religious art. The temple also is an institute for training monks and a school for young children.
