On April 22, 2016, we reached our last port of call, Funchal, the capital of the islands of Madeira. Situated on a mountainous island, Funchal is a part of Portugal. We rode around the island visiting the Municipal Market and the Flower Market, which is just outside of it. From the harbor part of the city, all buildings and farming rise up on the cliffs. We traveled to Camara de Lobos, a small fishing village nestled in a cove. On the way there were many views out to the sea and of the ragged shoreline. One of the prominent features was a giant rock, Cabo Girao, that rose steeply from the water. Agriculture is a major source of income, and most of it is done on terraces cut into the mountains.
