Today was a new Canary Island for us therefore we decided to take an 8 hour tour which covered most of the highlights of the island. We started out and took the main highway from Las Palmas to Maspalomas. At Maspalomas, we went to the Riu Hotel to see the sand dunes on the south side of the island.
From there we traveled north up a ravine to San Bartolome and stopped at a lookout Mirador de Tunte for some spectacular views. We then continued to a high look out where we could see Mt. Teide on the island of Tenerife. Besides the views there were flocks of sheep grazing in the high meadows.
We then had lunch at Balcon de Zamora in Valleseco where there were great views of Las Palmas. After lunch we continued to the town of Teror to see the Basilica of The Pines. On to Arucas to see the Church of St. John the Baptist, a church inspired by a student of Gaudi. We finished at the Bay of Confital where we saw the Black Beach with Las Palmas in the background.
