We docked in Piraeus, Greece on April 10, 2015, and started our 3 day overland adventure during the Greek Orthodox Easter weekend. We drove over 5 hours to reach our first days destination, Meteora. The journey went through small towns, valleys and over mountains. The mountains were still capped with snow and were beautiful. We reached the town of Kalambaka at the base of an area called the Rocks which were used by monks to live in the caves that were in theses cliffs and later to build their monasteries on top of the steep rock pillars. Today only 6 monestaries remain and are occupied. We visited Staint Stephens which is now a nunnery, and walked around the grounds. Traveling though the area we saw the other 5 and stopped along the way to take some photos.
At night we attended the Procession of the Epitaph, a ceremony of the Greek Orthodox Church that takes place the evening of Good Friday.
