Mgarr, Gozo, Malta

Mgarr, Gozo, Malta

April 1st  left Valletta at 7:00 AM and proceeded to Gozo the second largest island in Malta. We arrived outside Mgarr, a tender port, at 9:00 AM. Today we toured the island on a ship’s tour. After tendering into the port we boarded a coach and proceeded to Dwejra seashore and the Azure Window. On our way we passed a Palm Sunday processional in the town of  San Lawrenz. The sea coast had large cliffs and various outcroppings which were very impressive. The jewel of the coast is the Azure Window a large arch cut out by the sea. From there  we drove to Gozo’s capital, Victoria. Here we hiked up to the Citadel a fortified walled city built by the Knights of St. John. Leaving Victoria we passed by the Basilica of Ta’Pinu, a center of pilgrimage. Our final stop was to the Temples of Ggantija, dating back to 3,600 BC, the oldest stone structure in the world.
