March 26, 2015 we docked in Muscat in Oman. Muscat is located on the Arabian Sea and is nestled among the rocky Al Hajar Mountains. Our trip today included a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. The mosque is very large and could hold close to 20,000 worshipers and was beautifully landscaped. The inside was adorned with green and gold tile work. We next went to the Mutrah Souq a covered market below ground level to help protect the shop keepers and customers from the extreme summer heat. We then went to the Qasr Al Alam Palace, one of many palaces in Oman, for a view of the outside before returning to the port. When sailing out of the Gulf of Oman, we passed one of the many Portuguese forts that guarded the city in 16th Century.
