On February 22, 2013, we found ourselves in the port of Napier. Our tour took us out along a rugged coastline by 4X4 all terrain 20 passenger busses to Cape Kidnappers, the southern promontory in Hawks Bay, which is the home of a large Gannet Colony and nesting site. Here we were able to walk on the perimeter of the colony as we observed the 1,000s of birds and their young.
Upon returning we took a tour down town Napier and its many Art Deco Buildings. Napier is known as “The Art Deco City” . It was the ship’s maiden call to this port of our Art Deco inspired ship, and the town came out in period costumes and vintage cars to send us off.
