On January 20, 2016, we anchored outside the village of Taiohae, on the island of Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia. Since the sail in was in mid morning the bow was open for viewing this lush green volcanic island and Taiohae Bay, an old volcanic caldera. As we sailed in, the onboard Polynesian On Location Team performed a welcome dance. The short tender ride took us to the town pier where we were greeted by local musicians and dancers. We decide to walk around the bay to visit Notre-Dame Cathedral a stone and wood building with spectacular wood carvings. After we left the Cathedral we went to Piki Vehine Park, which had several carved stone Tiki’s that were done by modern local artists.
