The morning of January 29, 2013 found us in the port of Puntarenas, Costa Rica, our first port in the Pacific Ocean. The port is located on a narrow peninsula on the Nicoya Gulf and the pier juts out over 660 yards. Here we took a tour to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, which was a two and a half hour bus ride from the port. The trip to the forest went from 93⁰ at the pier to 64⁰ up in the forest. During the bus ride we traveled into and thru the Central Highlands and up to the Cloud Forest. Along the way we stoped to observer Howler Monkeys in the trees along the roadside. When we reached the forest we had lunch and then we took the Monteverde Train, which was a miniature vintage train through the cloud forest to a lookout that looked over the area including Arenal Volcano. At the lookout we walked along a trail that went into the forest observing the varied plant life.
