Auckland, New Zealand

February 2, 2016, found us docked next to the Ferry Terminal in downtown Auckland, New Zealand. We decided to visit Devonport, a village on the other side of  Waitemata Harbor, which is reached by a 10 minute ferry ride. Devonport is known for it’s heritage buildings dating back to the early 1800’s. Around the town there are two volcanic peaks, North Head, with views of the white sand beaches and out lying islands and Victoria Peak, with panoramic views of Auckland on the other side of the harbor. Auckland, New Zealand (Day 2)

On our second day in Auckland, we went to the Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Aquarium. The aquarium is located on the banks of the Waitemata Harbor just outside of Auckland. The aquarium is housed completely underground in old unused storage tunnels. The aquarium is divided into sections the two main ones being the Antarctic Encounter and the Underwater World. In the Antarctic Encounter there are Gentoo and King Penguins. Auckland, New Zealand (Day 1)

After leaving Tonga we arrived in Auckland, New Zealand on February 5, 2015. The ship docks next to the Ferry Terminal, in downtown Auckland. To explore the city we rode on the Hop on Hop off bus which takes you to all the major attractions in the city. We enjoyed the native brick and colonial architecture that was seen throughout the city. At the Aukland Museum there is a wonderful collection of Maori crafts and carvings including a Maori meeting house and canoe.
