Puntarenas Costa Rica

After exiting the Panama Canal we headed north and arrived in Puntarenas, Costa Rica on January 11, 2017. Puntarenas is situated on a peninsula and the ship has to dock at the end of a long pier. We took a tour up to the Cloud Forest at Volcano National Park. After a three and half hour bus ride we arrived at the park to find out that whole area was fogged in, thus the name cloud forest. We did walk around and enjoyed the many Wild Flowers that were in the area. We then proceeded to the Doka Estate Coffee Plantation, where we toured the grounds and processing plant. Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

On January 9, 2016 we arrived in the small town of Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. We have been here several times before but we never really explored the town which lies just outside the port. To leave the port area we walk through the port craft market and right into the town. We headed right to explore park Balvanero Vargas which is in the process of being renovated with monuments depicting the history of the area. Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

After 3 days at sea we reached our first port of call, Puerto Limon in Costa Rica. Since we have been here many times before, we decided to go ashore and walk around the terminal and craft market. Sarchi, Costa Rica

March 19, 2013 found us back in the port of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Today we went to the coffee region in the central mountain range to visit the town of Sarchi, known for it’s contraction and elaborately painted oxcarts which were used to bring coffee beans from the highlands down to the port. Sarchi is home to the worlds largest oxcart. We visited the colorful town square and then proceeded to the oldest oxcart factory where we saw the artists at work. Puntarenas, Costa Rica

The morning of January 29, 2013 found us in the port of Puntarenas, Costa Rica, our first port in the Pacific Ocean. The port is located on a narrow peninsula on the Nicoya Gulf and the pier juts out over 660 yards. Here we took a tour to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, which was a two and a half hour bus ride from the port. The trip to the forest went from 93⁰ at the pier to 64⁰ up in the forest. During the bus ride we traveled into and thru the Central Highlands and up to the Cloud Forest. Along the way we stoped to observer Howler Monkeys in the trees along the roadside.
