Cadiz, Spain

On April 19, 2015, we docked in the port of Cadiz, Spain. Cadiz is a city that lies on a peninsula with the old walled city situated on the tip and features the port. We took the HoHo bus to get around this small city, out along the coastline and  beaches. The walled gate, Puertas de Tierra, is perfectly restored and is quite impressive. There are also 2 restored castles that looked out on the Atlantic Ocean. In the main part of the old city, the streets are very narrow and mostly pedestrian. Mijas, Spain

Malaga, Spain was the port we docked in on April 18,2015. Today we traveled to the hill town of Mijas, about an hour down the coast and in land a bit. Mijas is a typical Andalusian white building town with prehistoric roots. The main attraction is the Donkey Taxis, which take tourists up and down the narrow streets. Another attraction is the Chapel of the Rock, a small chapel carved into a rock. Being on the hillside there are great vistas of the Mediterranean. Elche, Spain

On April 17, 2015 we docked in Cartagena, Spain at 10 AM. Today we went to Elche about an hour away. Elche is known for its Palm Forest another UNESCO World heritage site that was built by the Moors when they occupied Spain. Situated in the dry part of Europe the oasis of palms was something to see. We started out in the old city visiting the Basilica St. Maria and the Municipal Park which is part of the forest. We then crossed the Elche River, with its highly decorated floor and went to the Priest’s Garden. Here was a collection of plants from all over the world, dating back to 1918....

Naples, Italy

We arrived in Naples, Italy on April 14,2015 and decided to use the HoHo Bus to get around the city. We found the bus at the pier and took it to the Castle Nuovo where the tour began. The bus took us through the city passing many plazas such as the  Piazza Matteoti. Throughout the city there were many shops whose goods spilled out onto the sidewalk. The residential buildings that featured balconies were very colorful. After touring the old section of the city we drove along the south coastline for a while with some views of the city. Messina, Sicily, Italy

After leaving Greece we entered the Strait of Messina, which divides the Italian mainland and Sicily on April 13, 2015.After entering the harbor and passing the Virgin Mary Statue, we docked around noon in the port of Messina on the Sicilian side. We went into the city for some sightseeing and lunch. The old part of the city with the Duomo and the Clock Tower was close to the ship and our first stop on our walk. We then proceeded to explore the streets with its Gothic Architecture and traditional balconies.
