Moorea, French Polynesia

After leaving Papeete at 5:30 am on January 24, 2016, we arrived and anchored in Opunohu Bay, in the island of Moorea at 8:00 am the same day. Today we took a four wheel drive tour of the island after tendering into Papetoai Village which was around a peninsula from where we were anchored. The trip started by going inland, through the Pineapple Fields, to the Opunohu Valley which is surrounded by all the major mountains of the island. After spending some time there, taking in the views, we went to the Belvedere Lookout, that over looks both main bays, Opunohu Bay on the left and Cooks Bay on...

Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia

We docked in the town of Papeete on the island of Tahiti on January 23, 2016. We would be here overnight but would leave at 5:30 am the next morning. The ship docks literally in town as can be seen by the Craft Market image. We just strolled through the town winding up at the local market called Le Marche where goods from produce and fish to handicrafts, clothing and handmade flower leis were sold. In the evening the culinary department on the ship had a Polynesian BBQ complete with suckling pig. Later that night we were treated to Tahiti Ora, a local Polynesian dance group. The thumbnail...

Rangiroa, French Polynesia

On January 22, 2016, we anchored in the lagoon of Rangiroa, one of the largest atolls in the world, outside the Village of Tituta. The atoll consists of 415 islets and sand bars and has a circumference of 124 miles. We tendered in to the Tituta Dock  and were greeted by local venders and singers. We walked the main street to the Community Church and then on to the Coral Church with its’ walls made from coral. We decide to go to the Pacific Ocean side of the atoll which was reached by traveling down a straight well paved road and paralleled the Tiputa Pass. Along the way we passed...

Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia

On January 20, 2016, we anchored outside the village of Taiohae, on the island of  Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia. Since the sail in was in mid morning the bow was open for viewing this lush green volcanic island and Taiohae Bay, an old volcanic caldera. As we sailed in, the onboard Polynesian On Location Team performed a welcome dance. The short tender ride took us to the town pier where we were greeted by local musicians and dancers. We decide to walk around the bay to visit Notre-Dame Cathedral a stone and wood building with spectacular wood carvings. After we left the Cathedral we went...

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

We anchored in the lagoon, just outside the town of Vaitape on the island of Bora Bora on January 26, 2015. We tendered into the main pier in the middle of the small town of Vaitape. We were greeted by some local musicians that were playing just outside the craft center. The town has only one main road which has all the stores along it as well as the churches and roadside vendors, with local ladies shopping for the local produce. One of the restaurants had another local band outside to attract customers. Back on the ship there were views of Mt. Otemanu, the main peak of the island, even the...
