Honolulu Hawaii Day 2

Our second day in Honolulu we took a tour, “The Natural Highlights of Oahu,” which encompassed some of the natural beauty that the island has to offer. Our first stop went into the crater at Diamond Head. From Diamond Head we went to Hanauma Bay, one of the world’s most scenic beaches and then along the East Shore to the Pali Lookout. We then headed inland to see an ancient war temple and then back to the ship for sail away at sunset overlooking Waikiki Beach. The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip. Honolulu Hawaii Day 1

On January 26, 2017, we docked at the Aloha Tower pier in Honolulu for a 2 day stay. On the first day we used the Waikiki Trolley to explore the city. We traveled along Waikiki Beach and then out to Diamond Head, past the lighthouse with views of Koko Head.  We then headed back to the city, where we toured around various sites including the Old Town. At the State Capital we got off the trolley and walked back to the Aloha Tower passing the ‘Iolani Palace and the King Kamehameha Statue.  We topped of the day by listening to Debby Bacon under the stars and attending a folkloric show on...

Hilo Hawaii

After 6 days at sea we docked in Hilo, Hawaii on January 25, 2017. We were greeted in the terminal by a hula dancer. On this day we took a tour that explored some of the results of Kilauea Volcano’s repeated eruptions.  On our way to the first stop, Rainbow Falls, we stopped to see a rainbow that arched over Mauna Kea. From the falls we went to the most recent lava flow that had stopped just before it reached a small village. Then it was on to Lava Tree Park, to see the lava tree molds–formed when lava surrounds a tree, cools against it, then drains away. Our next stop was at Ahalanui...

Maui, Hawaii, USA

The Island of Maui in Hawaii was our port of call on March 7, 2013. We docked in Kahului in the commercial port. From our cabin we had a nice view of Kahului Harbor and the West Maui Mountains. Today we traveled to the Iao Valley State Park to see the Iao Needle, a lava remnant that rises 1,200 feet above the valley floor. On this site was also where King Kamehameha destroyed the Maui Army to unite Hawaii. On March 6,2013, we arrived in Hilo on the island of Hawaii, USA. We went to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to visit the Kilauea Volcano area, where we first visited the Jaggar Museum to get an overview of the area and its history. At the museum area we could see the caldera of  Kilauea, and views of Mauna Loa. There was also a distant view of Mauna Kea, these are the three major volcanoes that make up the island of Hawaii.
