Madeira Portugal

On April 18, 2017, we docked in Funchal on the island of Madeira, our last port on this cruise. The ship was docked just across from the main town of Funchal. We took a shuttle into Funchal and boarded the Hop on Hop off Bus, that toured the town and went to a small fishing village, Camara de Lobos. Madeira is a mountainous island that is covered with terraced gardens which have mostly bananas in them. The fishing village is in a small cove with many colorful boats and waterfront restaurants. The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip. Click on any of them to see actual...

Funchal, Madeira

March 21st. After 8 days at sea we docked in Funchal, Madeira at 8:00am on a bright sunny day. We left the Prinsendam after breakfast at 9:15 am and decided to walk the half mile into town along the new promenade even though a shuttle bus was provided. We ventured past the church and strolled the narrow streets until we came to the market, with it’s flowers, vegetables and fish stalls. From the market we went over to the cable car and took it up to Monte where we had a cappacino and enjoyed the views of the city below. Returning to Funchal we had lunch at a local restaurant. We then...
