Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia

On January 20, 2016, we anchored outside the village of Taiohae, on the island of  Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia. Since the sail in was in mid morning the bow was open for viewing this lush green volcanic island and Taiohae Bay, an old volcanic caldera. As we sailed in, the onboard Polynesian On Location Team performed a welcome dance. The short tender ride took us to the town pier where we were greeted by local musicians and dancers. Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia

We spent 8 days at sea before we anchored off the island of Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia on January 22, 2015. We took a tender into the town of Taiohae, where we were greeted by local musicians, a conch shell blower and a greeter offering plumeria flowers. We then took a tour up and through the Taipivai Valley. On the top of the mountain there was an amazing view of Taiohae Bay and the Amsterdam anchored below.
