Singapore (Day 2)

On our second day in Singapore, March 5, 2015, we took the Metro to Chinatown to walk around and see the sights. This was the end of the Chinese New Year celebration, so Chinatown was still decorated for the Year of the Goat. In the middle of Chinatown is the Hindu temple Sri Mariamman, with its highly decorated façade. We then hopped on the HoHo bus and went to the Gardens by the Bay, a huge 101 hectare park and gardens. Singapore (Day 1)

On March 4, 2015, we arrived in the island country of Singapore for an overnight stay. Our day began with a shuttle ride through the main part of Singapore to the Suntec Center were we boarded the Hop on Hop off bus to tour the city. On the route through the city we passed  Little India, with its colonial architecture. Another area we passed thru was Chinatown all decorated for the year of the Goat. Singapore has both old and new buildings, with each new one trying to outdo the others in style. Singapore (Day 2)

Today we visited the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown and then went back to Arab Street to look at the shops. On our way to Chinatown we crossed over the Singapore River with it’s views of the skyline and we passed the City Hall on the Padang.  We then ventured off to the National Orchid Garden which is comprised of  a 74 hectare garden with the largest display of tropical orchids in the world.   The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip. Singapore at Night

In the evening of day one, we took a tour that included three ways to view the city at night. Our first stop was to ride the Singapore Flyer, the tallest observation wheel in the world. It was at sunset and we saw Singapore light up during our 30 minute ride. We then went to Clarke Quay where we once again took a Bumboat down the Singapore River to Marina Bay and back. Our last adventure was to get in a Trishaw for a 20 minute ride to Bugis Market where we explored this crowded local market at 10:00 PM. The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip. Singapore (Day 1)

It took us 3 days at sea to reach our next port of Singapore on March 8, 2014. During the day we went to explore the city. Our first stop was at Thian Hock Keng a Taoist Temple, one of the oldest temples in Singapore. We then went to Clarke Quay, where we took a Bumboat ride down the Singapore River  to Marina Bay and back. Along the way there were spectacular views of the skyline of Singapore,  Marina Bay Sands Hotel and the iconic Merlion.
