Sydney, Australia (Day 2)

On February 11, 2016, our 2nd day in Sydney, after taking the shuttle into town, we strolled from Circular Quay, past the Sydney Opera House, towards Hyde Park. Around Circular Quay there were 3 more Chinese New Year luminaries, the rabbits, the dragon and the monkeys. As you walk along you get postcard views of the Harbor Bridge and when you turn the corner, the Opera House. We then walked up the hill and continued past the Sydney Hospital with it’s good luck boar sculpture, just like the one in Florence, Italy, an interesting  Mahjong sculpture and a quaint coffee shop at the Sydney...

Sydney, Australia (Day 1)

We entered Sydney Harbor, passing by the Opera House and under the Harbor Bridge to our docking location at White Bay, on February 10, 2016, for an overnight stay in Sydney. White Bay is about a 30 minute shuttle ride to Circular Quay in the Rocks section of Sydney. Instead of taking the shuttle we took a ferry ride to get a different view of the city. Once in Sydney we got on a Hop on Hop off bus to go to Paddy’s Market, Chinatown and the Chinese Garden of Friendship. Paddy’s Market has been in Sydney since 1834 and sells everything from clothing to produce. Some of the...

Sydney, Australia (Day 2)

On our second day in Sydney we started out exploring the Queen Victoria Building. The building is a historic building that was a tribute to Queen Victoria built in 1898 and encompasses a complete city block. The exterior of the building, with its stained glass windows, has been preserved as it was originally built and the interior has been completely restored.  We then went to Cowper Wharf where the famous Harry’s Cafe de Wheels food truck is located. Here we dined on Australian meat pies. We continued on to the Opera House and then walked Circular Quay back to the ship. As we sailed...

Sydney at Night

The evening of the 10th of February was spent on the Amsterdam docked in the Sydney Harbor. The evening was spent on deck 8 aft around the Sea View Pool, listening to Debby Bacon. With the Opera House in the background, the setting for the evening was spectacular. From this vantage point we could see climbers making the last climb of the day on the Harbor Bridge just before sunset. Later in the evening Luna Park, the bridge and the Opera House were beautifully illuminated. The thumbnail pictures below represent this stop on our trip. Sydney, Australia (Day 1)

On February 10, 2015 we docked at the Overseas Passenger terminal in the “Rocks” just across from the Sydney Opera House. From the ship you get a full view of both the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. We took the Hop on Hop off bus to explore the city. Our first route covered the main city with views of St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Sydney Tower and the Queen Victoria Building. We then ventured into the suburbs and going to Bondi Beach. On the return there were some great views of the Sydney skyline. Before lunch we stepped inside the Central Railway Station to see the famous...
