Valencia, Spain

Valencia, Spain

We docked in Castellón de la Plana, Spain, a maiden call for our ship, on April 28, 2011. Our tour was to the City of Valencia, about an hour away through many orange groves and small farms. Arriving in Valencia we started with a panoramic drive around the ultramodern Arts and Science area which is built on the old river bed that runs through the city. We then proceed through the old part of the city to the highlight of the trip the Mercado Central de Valencia, one of the largest and oldest produce markets in Europe. From there we walked across the street to the Silk Exchange, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there we walked to the Cathedral and its surrounding squares. Leaving the squares we past through the medieval Gate of Serrans, We returned to the ship and found that a local dance group in typical Andalusian costumes were pier side to entertain us as we left the port.
